Christine Mathieu  Go to Christine Mathieu's Gallery

Christine Mathieu lives and works in Paris. Her artistic career started in the corporate visual arts sector after setting up ‘L’Epicerie’; a graphic arts studio in Paris. Before holding regular exhibitions of her work, Christine worked in photography, graphic arts and stage design. Christine’s photography draws from a simple and controlled style of Japanese pictorialism and has been widely exhibited around the world.

In 2003, Christine had a number of solo exhibitions that included Grand Prix Européen du Salon de Montrouge and Centre Culturel de Saint Germain en Laye in France. She also exhibited at Monastère San Cugat del Valles in Catalogne and Musée Amarante in Portugal, in addition to taking part various group shows including Les Ateliers de la Poudrière - Centre D’art in Seyssel, and Galerie Trafic in Ivry sur Seine in France. In 2004, Christine’s work was exhibited at Centre d’art de Noyers sur Serein and Galerie Sophie Rapaud. This was also the first year her work was shown at Arles.

2005 saw her work displayed at the Transphotographique festival in addition to a personal exhibition at Maison de la Photo de Lille. In 2006, Christine had two solo exhibitions- Mois de la photo OFF and Edition du Catalogue; ‘A Fleur de Chair’, together with another exhibition at Arles as well as the Biennale de l’image de Nancy. In 2007, she exhibited at the Best of Arles in Los Angeles as well as Galerie GOOD FRIDAY in Brussels and CENTRO DE FOTOGRAFÍA ISLA in Tenerife.

Last year her work was seen at Ville de Montreuil (Mission pour les Arts Plastiques et le Patrimoine) and also at acquisition: Fond municipal de la Ville de Montreuil. She is currently exhibiting at Galerie Suty in France and actually presented by the Galerie ‘Chambre avec vue’ in Paris.

Christine Mathieu work plays with ideas of the ‘primitive’ allowing her to build visual stories in which violence and sensuality coexist.
